Fuller Group has specialized in retail and restaurant design since its inception in 1997. The firm has provided structural engineering design for retail facilities in all of the lower 48 states. The projects include multi-year retail building programs for clients such as Hobby Lobby, Walgreens and Trader Joe's, as well as restaurant chains including Dairy Queen and Krystal. We also provide services for developments with multiple retail tenants on both large and small scales.

Our retail team can provide assistance with prototype development as well as individualized designs. We understand the retail industry and know how to provide thorough construction documents that will be economical to build, fast to construct, and long-lasting for the future end users.

Coastal North Town Center

  • North Myrtle Beach, SC
  • 311,000 square feet
  • Two multi-tenant, in-line retail centers, and multiple outparcels
  • Various construction types

Coastal North was a multi-year, multi-phase project developed by Realty Link with Architectural Services provided by COR3 Design, LLC. Located in a high-wind, hurricane-prone region, this project provided a challenging design opportunity. Fuller Group needed to coordinate with multiple tenant requirements in order to be compliant with individual tenant specifications. The primary construction types were load bearing CMU walls for the in-line retail, and steel-framed structures for the out-parcels. Fuller’s scope also included design of the entry sign, which was more than 60 feet tall.

Hobby Lobby – Various Locations

Hobby Lobby is one of the most successful retail companies in America. David Green started the business in 1972 in Oklahoma City making frames in his garage at home. It has since grown to over 650 locations in 48 states as of 2016. Mr. Green and his family are devout Christians and those values have played a strong part in the development of the company, which is still privately held today.  Keeping the company private has allowed them to donate significant portions of their profit to philanthropic causes through the years.

Fuller Group first worked with Hobby Lobby in 2003, providing structural engineering services for their first two stores in Greenville, SC. Since that time, we have provided structural engineering services for over 450 of their stores nationwide. Our team has worked closely with Hobby Lobby and their architectural teams to continually improve and develop the structural designs emphasizing quality and constructability.

At times, it has been a challenge to work for such a rapidly growing company. The rapid pace has required us to be at the top of our game to ensure that we provide high quality work on a consistent basis. It is a continuing pleasure to work with a company with such strong integrity, and our staff is devoted to ensuring we provide the best support (both literally and figuratively) that we can for their structures.
